The New River Sport Fishing Association was formed in 1992 to enhance, protect and promote the Sport Fishing opportunities in Alleghany County NC.  Our focus is mainly on the New River and the county streams that feeds the New River!!

Alleghany County is well blessed with a variety of Sport Fish. Our streams have a good abundance of Trout, the New River provides excellent action for Smallmouth Bass and Rock Bass "Redeye's" as we ll as Musky and Catfish. There are also Stocked lakes that provide fishing for Carp and Trout. As Sport Fishermen we recommend light tackle or Fly Fishing and of course Catch and Release!!
