A Place For All Seasons.

"The Old Homeplace"

In 1921, Dr. G. F. Duncan built his twelve-room home on these ten acres in the Glade Valley community. The six upstairs rooms he intended to use as a clinic. However, due to failing health, his plans were never completed. Glade Valley's Presbyterian minister, the Reverend Wayne Thompson, purchased the home in 1927. Through his association with Glade Valley School, students were permitted to pick and sell the fruits from orchards on the premises. After Reverend Thompson's death, the house was rented until 1956 when Mr. and Mrs. J. Coke Marion purchased it. They renovated the house and began the ham business beside it. Following Mr. Marion's death in 1972, his wife, Jeanne Marion, remained in the old house until February 1984. At this time, their son, Newton C. "Bud" Marion II, and their grandson, Newton C. "Buddy" Marion III, began a new dream for Dr. Duncan's country clinic - Marion's Old Homeplace - a "down home in high style" country restaurant.

On June 28, 1996 the Homeplace came under new management. Though the ownership has changed, the friendly service, great food, and warm hospitality remains the same. The new owners will continue to serve the country style food from scratch. They have added several new dishes to the menu. Starting in November thru December of 1996, the Homeplace will begin offering seafood and Cuban style cuisine. In the spring of 1997, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights will be seafood and Cuban style cuisine nights. On Saturday and Sunday, the Homeplace will serve country style cooking. The Homeplace has also added roast beef to their delicious menu. Please look at our menu.
